Office of Project Scope and Cost Management
As part of its most recent organizational restructuring, Mn/DOT established
the Office of Project Scope and Cost Management, which will be responsible
for moving the scoping and cost estimating and cost management initiatives
forward. In early October, Mike Ginnaty, formerly assistant district engineer
for District 4, was named director of the Office of Project Scoping and
Cost Management. Also in October, Jean Wallace, project development team
leader for the Federal Highway Administration Minnesota Division Office,
was named director of project scoping for the office.
Peer Review Workshop Applies Key Concepts
On April 3-4, district engineers, assistant district engineers, project managers, and estimators attended a peer review workshop. Although this was a very limited application of the process and policies under development, the workshop did offer an opportunity to put into action some key concepts from the cost estimating project. The main objective of the workshop was to aid the districts in providing better defined project scopes and cost estimates for FY 2009 and 2010 advanced projects.
