About the project
This project will remove and replace the existing pavement on Highway 4 through the city of Cosmos. It will narrow the width of highway, provide Americans with Disabilities Act improvements and allow the city to replace and relocate aging underground utilities.
- Increased safety for vehicles due to replacement of deteriorated pavement
- Increased safety for pedestrians due to narrowed street width and ADA improvements
- Reduced maintenance costs
- Increased walkability and enhanced downtown
- Improved city utilities
This project was made possible in great part by a one-time grant from the Federal Highway Administration’s Transportation, Community, and System Preservation Competitive Grant Program. MnDOT District 8 received $1.9 million in funding from the program and provided additional funding from its targeted resources to pay for the project. Without this additional funding, District 8 would have been unable to afford a full reconstruction through the community.
