About the Project
This project will provide a grade separation at the Canadian Pacific railway crossing with Sturgeon Lake Road. It will improve safety, reduce delays and provide more reliable access for emergency services to Prairie Island and the Treasure Island Casino.
The roadway serves more than 11,500 vehicles per day. Included in this number are a high proportion of buses traveling to the Treasure Island Casino. Growth in traffic volume on both the roadway and on the railroad tracks is anticipated and will only increase safety concerns at this location.
The Canadian Pacific Railway has included the addition of a rail alignment to provide dual tracks in their Capital Improvement Plan. There are also plans for High Speed Rail and Commuter Rail to use this rail corridor.
The city of Red Wing is the lead agency for the environmental assessment, with the acknowledgement of the Prairie Island Indian Community, and with MnDOT providing oversight.
