About this project
The I-90 Bridge spans the Mississippi River between Dresbach, Minn., and La Crosse, Wis. Built in 1967, the existing bridge is 2,490-foot-long and has four lanes. It is fracture-critical and has narrow shoulders that cause lane closures when vehicles are stranded or during routine maintenance operations. Sections of the Minnesota approaches have had higher than average crash rates.
Benefits
- Reduce crash rates for approaches on the Minnesota side
- Improve substandard access for trucks to the nearby rest area
- Improve safety for bicyclists using Hwy 61 and the Mississippi River Trail
Key issues
The close proximity of this bridge to Hwy 61, the railroad tracks and the Minnesota rest area make roadway and bridge geometry challenging.
