About the project
The Hwy 43 Bridge over the Mississippi River in Winona is considered fracture-critical and needs to be rehabilitated or replaced. The existing bridge is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, requiring MnDOT to study rehabilitation options.
MnDOT is currently in the preliminary phase of this project, which includes concept development and coordination with state and federal agencies. Stakeholder and public involvement will be integral to the preliminary design and environmental documentation process. Municipal approval of the preferred alternative will be required from the city of Winona before proceeding to final design.
Benefits
A new or rehabilitated bridge will be structurally sound and redundant, making it safer for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.
