The Hwy 210 Mississippi River Bridge in Brainerd was constructed in 1932 and is functionally obsolete. The bridge deck was last replaced in 1984 and the current structure lacks shoulders. In 2009 the average daily traffic volume was 26,000 and is forecast to increase to 40,000 by 2031. The deck geometry and traffic volumes create a safety problem for motorists and pedestrians.
