About the project
Hwy 1 is located in an agricultural area by the town of Oslo on the Red River, which borders North Dakota.
The existing structure was built in 1959, has suffered extensive flooding damage and is functionally obsolete.
This project will either rehabilitate or replace the exiting fracture critical truss bridge to provide a structurally redundant replacement. If a new bridge is constructed, significant regrading on each approach will be required.
Key issues and risks
- A high degree of coordination with other agencies, emergency services, schools and transit is required for project scheduling due to the limited number of alternate river crossings available in this area.
- Seasonal flooding of the Red River may create construction difficulties.
