St. Paul, Minn.— The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) Aeronautics Office will host a unique group of aircraft at its Minnesota State Fair aviation display, located just north of the Como entrance, next to the greenhouses, August 25 through September 5, 2005.
The display will feature powered glider aircraft, an ultralight air vehicle, a portable air traffic control tower, Cessna aircraft flight simulator, and an operating runway lights diorama. There will be a detailed display of weather information gathering systems, a BT-15 aircraft fuselage in restoration, and an aircraft parts “petting zoo”, along with representatives from several Minnesota aviation organizations.
According to Wayne Petersen, Aviation Representative, MnDOT Aeronautics, “the State Fair is a great venue for us to expose many thousands of people to the excitement and pleasure of aviation. It gives them an opportunity to see things they wouldn’t normally see, and to talk one-on-one, with aviation professionals.” Petersen added, “it is great to watch kids (and adults) discover aviation, and learn about how important aviation is in our daily lives as well as to the economy and security of the nation.”
Raymond Rought, Director of Aeronautics said, “The efforts that go into displays like this are tremendous. The results are well worth it. Besides renewing friendships and partnerships with many aviation organizations, our combined efforts make it possible to share aviation with those who may not otherwise be exposed to all it can offer.”
The MnDOT Aeronautics aviation display is located approximately one block east of the general MnDOT transportation exhibit at the fair. This year’s theme at the exhibit is “Work Zones: Pay Attention or Pay the Price!” For more information on MnDOT at the State Fair, visit our website at www.mndot.gov
