Former Teacher flies first long-distance flight

First long-distance solar-powered flight. Janice Brown, a 98-pound former teacher, flew a tiny experimental solar-powered aircraft, Solar Challenger, 6 mi in 22 min. near Marana, Ariz. (Dec. 3, 1980). The craft was powered by a 2.75-horsepower engine.
