The need for skilled
workers in General Aviation
is accelerating….
and it’s not letting up!

Over 200,000 aerospace workers are eligible to retire this year, leaving companies of all sizes with shortages. Aviation programs at colleges and universities will not be able to replace the workforce at their current enrollment levels, which is adding to the severity of the problem. Active and aggressive recruiting and education of the general public needs to continue to spread awareness of the General Aviation industry and the industry-wide shortage of aviation professionals.

Some careers in aviation require certification from the Federal Aviation Administration, such as pilot, aviation maintenance technician, dispatcher, and air traffic control. The experience requirements for those FAA certificates can be met by completing an approved aviation program at a college or university. For other aviation careers such as aerospace engineering, and aviation business and management, a degree from a college or university in that subject area is required. Where are General Aviation
jobs located?

Jobs in general aviation are all over the U.S. They can be found in Minnesota, neighboring states, and as far away as Alaska and Hawaii. Just look below at some of the companies that are hiring and then go to links to see more!

Although regional airlines such as Pinnacle and Mesaba are NOT considered part of the General Aviation industry, they hire people in entry level positions such as pilots, maintenance technicians, and dispatchers. Regional airlines offer an excellent opportunity to gain experience and develop a work history. Some people prefer the regional airlines because of the unique benefits they have to offer.

For some people, working for the major airlines as a pilot, maintenance technician, dispatcher, or aviation manager is their ultimate career goal. Almost always, the training and experience required for those positions are first acquired in the General Aviation industry and/or the regional airlines before moving into the major airlines.
